Our Island
There
is a perfect piece of paradise in the Turks & Caicos Islands,
in the outer archipelago of the Greater Antilles. It is called
Providenciales, or Provo, and it is uniquely blessed with
all the beauties of nature, a history both rich and colorful,
and friendly and industrious native residents who are proud
to call themselves "Belongers."
Just
575 nautical miles southeast of Miami and 90 miles southeast
of the Bahamas, this British Crown Colony was originally inhabited
by the Lucayan Indians. Reputed by many historians to be the
first landfall of Christopher Columbus in the New World in
1492, the same exquisite sites that captured his attention
remain unchanged today.
The country's eight Islands and over forty Cays are surrounded
by crystal clear waters, sun swept white beaches and breathtaking
coral reefs. Each perfect day is followed by a sunset
you just have to see to believe.
Development on Provo is tasteful, with consideration to its
natural surroundings. There are no high rise structures, no
crowds, no traffic jams.
And thus, the island has preserved a coveted, relaxed pace
that vacationers and residents alike have searched the world
for and found on Provo. Unspoiled. Beautiful. Inviting. Providenciales
is the tropics as they were meant to be.
Beautiful By Nature
These words have been used thousands of times and over many
years to describe the Turks & Caicos Islands. Nature
here is beautiful and will stay that way for all to enjoy
for many years to come because it is cherished and protected.
The preservation of wildlife, unspoiled reefs, plantation
ruins, hundred year old shipwrecks and shimmering waters is
an integral part of day to day living.
The people who live here are committed to maintaining harmony
between development and the fragile tropical environment.
This commitment, coupled with a strong sense of pride in heritage,
results in "Beautiful by Nature."
